Montreal, February 2, 2010 A new record in construction in Quebec City Communication service Argent
The economic vitality of Quebec City still appears in the
field of construction: 2009 has been a record year for the Capital City.
Whereas a world recession prevailed, the value of building permits delivered by
the City during the year has increased by 20% compared to 2008, passing from
1,016 billion $ to 1,222 billion $.
“Quebec City profits at present from an impressive economic
vitality which benefits the whole of the population, Mr. Régis Labeaume, the Mayor
of Quebec was delighted to say. Contrary to the world trend, our economy
progresses and prospers. We are in a period favourable for development and we
can be optimistic vis-à-vis the years which are to come. ”
The number of permits delivered has also increased, passing
from 10.962 in
2008 to 11.980 in
2009.
The number of residences created in 2009 has increased by
36%, (3 578 in
2008 compared to 4.850 in
2009). Still this year, it is in the Rivières district that one counts the most
residences created, that is to say 1.399.
Moreover, the City authorized the opening of 19,7 km of streets in the
new allotments. Since January 1, 2002, that is more than 87 km of new streets which have
been opened to receive some 13.500 new housing units.
