Increased vacancy rates are expected in Montreal and Gatineau with a decrease in Sherbrooke however

The latest statistical report with forecasts released in the fourth quarter of 2008 by the CMHC states that Montreal will know an increase of its vacancy rate for residential dwellings of private initiative (polled in October of 2008) of 3,1 % compared to October of 2007, when it was at 2,9 %.

In Gatineau, the rate should reach 3,4 % in 2008 whereas it was at 2,9 % in 2007. Apartments are becoming very scarce though in Quebec City, and the vacancy rate of 1,2 % there would remain at the same level as the one in 2007 by the end of the year 2008.

A diminishing vacancy rate however will be seen in Sherbrooke, going from 2,4 % in 2007 to 2,1 % in 2008.

A slight increase will be observed in the region of Trois-Rivières, where the vacancy rate of 1,5 % in 2007 should climb to 1,8 %, which would be a small increase, this always compared to polls done in October of 2007 and in October of 2008.
