Prices of residences increase in Quebec but decrease in the West of the country

For all the regions of Canada, sales prices of contractors have decreased by 0,2 % in June, whereas the fall in May was 0,1%. It is in Vancouver that prices have most decreased from May to June (- 0,9%), followed by Edmonton (- 0,8%) and Victoria (- 0,5%). This price index of new residences was published by Statistics Canada.

The observation which was made in Vancouver in particular is that the manufacturers have reduced their prices in order to stimulate sales and to liquidate their stock of houses while others offered free additions and incentives in cash. On the other hand, contractors have increased their prices for models of houses which were already selling well.

The biggest monthly rise in prices of new residences was registered in Saskatoon (+ 0,5%), followed by Winnipeg and St.John's (+ 0,4% each). Montreal, Ottawa-Gatineau and Hamilton also posted monthly rises from + 0,1% each.
