Revenu Québec enhances tax deductions to make rental buildings accessible to people with disabilities

In a news item issued by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, landlords have been advised that work carried out since March 23, 2006, to make their rental buildings accessible to handicapped people, can take advantage of enhanced tax deductions provided by Revenu Québec.

This work must facilitate access to the building by physically handicapped people, or so they can use it in all security and safety. This work must be certified by the Régie du bâtiment as being eligible according to the design standards without infringement on the Quebec Construction Code.

Landlords will receive the tax deductions through the Régie du bâtiment. The certification form is available on the Regie’s web site: www.rbq.gouv.qc.ca , or at its Customer Service Centre. The form must be returned only when the work is complete.

It should also be noted that the work must be approved either by an architect, a professional technologist, or an engineer in good standing at his/her professional order.

All procedures to be followed can be found at the Régie du bâtiment’s web site: www.rbq.gouv.qc.ca . For specific information about the tax deduction, call staff of Revenu Quebec at: 1-800-267-6299; 418-659-6299; or 514-864-6299.
