Landlords can still enjoy the ecoENERGY Retrofit Programme with grants that may be as high as 5 000 $ to help cover the cost of measures taken to improve energy efficiency.
The subsidies of this programme apply to a panoply of measures meant to reduce energy consumption and the assurance of a cleaner environment by improving the insulation of a dwelling or the modernization of a heating device.
One should note that only houses that have been subject to residential energy evaluation by a counsellor certified by Natural Resources Canada are admitted to this programme. Here are the types of habitation that are admitted to the ecoENERGY Retrofit Programme: detached houses, row-houses, duplexes, triplexes and mobile homes resting on permanent foundations. Certain small dwellings of habitations of three stories or less may equally be admissible.
The amount of the subsidy that will be granted will depend on the return of the improvements made, i. e. it is calculated in function of the efficiency of the measures taken and not in function of the costs undertaken.
The maximum grant of 5 000 $ is accorded per house or per dwelling of a habitation with several units; whereas the total amount of the subsidy given to a person or to an entity for admissible dwellings over the course of the length of the programme is of a total value of 500 000 $.
On average, the subsidy given will be more than a 1 000 $, for a cost reduction and a reduction of energy use of 25 %.
