It is necessary to help low-income people

Le Front d'action populaire en réaménagement urbain (FRAPRU) has obtained the confirmation of Mr Laurent Lessard, Minister responsible for Housing, for the construction of 3000 additional social housing each year during the next 5 years.

The APQ privileges assistance to the person rather than aid to the stone. These measures must allow financial support for people who need it and not the installation of real-estate infrastructure. Assistance to the person contributes to maintain socio-economic integration by avoiding the creation of ghettos.

According to the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ), in the region of Montreal, the waiting time to obtain an accessible house is more than 55 months. Assistance to the person would make it possible for vulnerable people to obtain quality housing in the district where they want to live and this, at the renewal of their lease.

Several municipalities encourage the Governments to grant more aid to the person. Plenty of assistance exists but in too small quantities and the conditions of access to this assistance are very limited.

The APQ hopes that the budget of Mr Raymond Bachand for 2011 will comprise two financial incentives: the first towards the owners of rental residences by subsidizing the restorations in their housing and thus to maintain a healthy rental real-estate park. The second one aid to the person to fill the needs of low-income people and thus not to worsen by new construction the increase of vacancy rates.
