It is the APCHQ’s turn to alert landlords against the effects of thaw and snow on the roofs

Since last year Quebec receives quite a bit more snow than in the past and subsequent periods of thaw may also make it heavier on the roofs when considerable accumulation of snow has not been cleared. It is thus the Association provinciale des constructeurs d'habitations du Québec (APCHQ)’s turn to consider it important to invite the landlords to be very prudent and see to it that too densely accumulated snow on the roofs be cleared in order to avoid that people get hurt or lose their lives, all this while allowing them to preserve their goods in good condition. Subsequent periods of thaw may also cause water infiltration.

« Although the structures of our buildings are able to bear snow accumulations it is important to take certain measures when a thaw occurs and when the snow gets heavier before beginning to melt », specifies the organism.

Snow accumulation may block the drainpipes and the ventilators on the roof. Ventilators meant to acclimatize the attic well should not be blocked by snow because that could cause ice formation on the roof with the sun rays.

Of course, the APCHQ invites the landlords to be prudent and ask specialists to do the work that must be done on the roofs, avoiding this way that people fall off the roofs with all the nasty consequences that that would entail.
