Marked decrease in the number of insolvency files in Canada

The total number of insolvency files of consumers and companies has fallen in May, in Canada.

 

The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada indicated that the total number of insolvency files had passed to 11.526, a fall of 12,8% compared to May 2009.

 

The number of bankruptcy files or proposals for a debt settlement dropped by 12% amongst the consumers.

 

On the side of the companies, a reduction of 29,8 percent has been recorded.

 

One has noticed a fall from one month to the other, between April and May, which reflects, on the one hand, a seasonal trend and, on the other hand, the economic recovery.

 

For the 12 month period which ended on May 31, the total number of insolvency files  increased by 10,2 percent compared to that finished on May 31, 2009 to reach 153.248, compared to 139.003 at the time of the corresponding period one year earlier.
