With the appearance of the new federal Renovation EcoEnergy Program, landlords of single-family homes, including insulated housing buildings, semi-detached, low-rise buildings or row houses, can now obtain subsisdies to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings all the while reducing the impact of these on the environment.
Introduced to Québec on April, by having the energy efficiency performance of your home or building evaluated, you will be informed of the amount of subsidy that will be granted to you as part of the new federal program. You could also be eligible for a Hydro-Québec, Gaz Metro or Gazifère subsidy.
The more renovations needed that will have an impact on energy efficiency, the higher the subsidies. Renovations that could have the most impact or insulation of the attic, outside walls, the basement or hygiene spaces.
To discover the Energguide of your building, an evaluation of electrical consumption of your building must be carried out. The test will allow you to check the performance of the heating equipment.
Landlords can call a consultant from the 'Agence d'efficacité énergétique du Québec, to have a infiltrometry test conducted to discover air leaks.. The test is $300, but only 50% is charged to the consumer or $150, the other part is absorbed by the Agency.
The landlord has 18 months to carry out the recommended work and once finished, a new evaltaion must be carried out to determine the new energy rating to dicsover the cost amount of subsidies.
