More demanding standards of energy effectiveness for new residential constructions

More demanding standards of energy effectiveness for new residential constructions

Last February, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Mr. Pierre Arcand, announced that the Government will revise the requirements of energy performance applicable to new residential buildings.

The revision of the regulations aiming at the residential sector will include new requirements of energy performance applicable to new constructions, in order to reduce their energy consumption by approximately 25% compared to the current practice.

The modifications suggested to the Quebec Construction Code will relate mainly to:

    insulation

    thermal or cold bridges

    air tightness

    fenestration

    mechanical ventilation.

A series of capsules has been put on line to explain these modifications and to popularize certain concepts relating to climate change.

Remember that these modifications to the Construction Code are one of the measures registered in the Action plan 2006-2012 on climate change and in the energy strategy for 2006-2015.
