New Website for Information on Natural Gas

A new website launched today provides Canadians with information on natural gas - smart energy and a foundation of Canada's clean energy future.

Natural gas is abundantly available, affordable, safe, reliable, and a clean source of energy. Today over six million customers representing well over half the Canadian population rely on natural gas for heat and power in homes, apartments, buildings, businesses, hospitals and schools.  Now www.cga.ca, the updated website for the Canadian Gas Association, provides information, facts, and useful tools on this important Canadian strategic asset.

"Natural gas has a central place in Canada's energy mix today meeting 30 per cent of the country's energy needs.  At CGA we want to provide Canadians with accurate information about this important energy source and the utilities that deliver it across the country," said Timothy Egan, President of the Canadian Gas Association.

Visitors to the website can access information on how natural gas meets energy needs today and how natural gas will help meet future energy needs in buildings, communities and on the road.  Also available are facts on the natural gas distribution industry in Canada, energy efficiency, and new innovation and technology involving natural gas.

"Natural gas will continue to be a primary energy source for heat and power, but what's exciting is the future role that natural gas and natural gas utility companies can play to enable efficiencies and innovation," said Egan.  "This website provides a forward looking view at Canada's energy mix and the role of natural gas in it.

CGA is the voice of Canada's natural gas distribution industry and its members are distribution companies, transmission companies, equipment manufacturers and other service providers.  Today, natural gas meets 30% of Canada's energy needs and Canadian natural gas distribution companies serve approximately 6.2 million customers - homes, businesses and industry - across Canada.
