The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) asks owners of dwellings with rentable apartments twice a year to participate in its semi-annual poll in order to evaluate the factors having an influence on the rental market.
The next poll will be done in October 2008. The sectors concerned in Quebec are the Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) of: Montreal, Quebec, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières and Saguenay. There are also the large agglomerations like Drummondville, Granby, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Shawinigan and St-Hyacinthe.
The poll which addresses itself to owners of three apartments and more, built by private initiative for rental purposes, is done in all the regions of Canada. Two key indicators are measured: the vacancy rate and the average rent. The data obtained serve to prepare a report for the CMHC on the rental market, for each one of the regions.
The CMHC considers it important to signal that all of the information provided by the owners remains confidential and that it appreciates very much the collaboration of the landlords interrogated during these polls.
